I’ve been missing in action and I am so sorry.  But fear not, Melvin and Toni have been in full force.

Like I say…I can’t make this stuff up.

Its Sunday morning.  My Dad is doing his usual…reading the newspaper.  Mom is chillin in bed and I am trying to stay out of the way…lol.   I go into their room to chat a bit with my Mom.

ME:  Whatcha doin?

MOM:  You know…playing my games.  (she loves Sudoku)  Where’s Dad?

ME:  In the dining room.

MOM:  I guess he wants some breakfast??

ME:  Ummm….that would be a good guess

*I start teasing her*

ME:  You better get to cooking…you and Dad took those old school vows. (LOL)

MOM:  What are you talking about?

ME:  You know (giggle giggle)….I, Toni, take you, Melvin, to be my lawfully wedded husband.

MOM:  Sucks teeth…yeah…not a chance that we got to write our own

ME:  To love, honor and…

MOM:  (laughs) for thine is the Kingdom

ME:  (tilting head sideways)  obey and to cherish

MOM:  Yea, though I walk through the valley

ME:  (now…scrunching up my face…head still tilted sideways)

MOM:  Of the shadow of death…I will fear no evil…thy rod and thy staff

ME:  Uhhh….Mom… those aren’t wedding vows…

MOM:  (stops)….

ME:  (smh smh)  You went from wedding vows to Bible scripture

MOM:   After 51 years of marriage….its all the same….I need a rod and staff to handle your Daddy

ME:  Well…alright then….I think he wants grits and eggs

MOM:  OK…(never looked up from Sudoku)

Christmas Eve c.1975.

My cousin Kymmy and I look like we were kidnapped from Whoville.

I am staring at the camera like:

really, REALLY… y’all gonna leave my hair like this and TAKE A PICTURE?

And Kymmy has the nerve to grin.   C’mon cousin…you have a comb stuck on the top of your head and I think Mama put a binder clip in mine.

And wait….had we been skiing???  I look like I had on goggles all day and have white rings around my eyes.

Where were our parents??!!?? ROFL

My previous post (https://builtfordtough.org/wow-wow/ ) has ignited some wonderful responses on my Facebook Page (Regan Ford).  So much so that my Mom and the author of the original email are going to meet.  And…get this, she has found the program with my Mom’s autograph. I kept the author’s name from the original post, but she has given me permission to let you all know.

This is part of the original email thread that I previously posted:

– Regan – Forgive my intrusion, but I saw your name on the Capitol Hill list serve. By any chance is your mother’s name Antoinette? If so, I still remember your name from 1975! –

I replied:

– Yes, Antoinette is my Mom. Oh Em Gee. How do we know each other? –

She replied:

– Regan – we don’t know each other, but your mother was an absolutely awesome speaker at a forum I attended in Washington. Coming from Michigan, she was the first truly professional woman I had ever seen. I know it sounds corny now, but I went up and got her autograph. I still have it. Just tell her I said “thank you”. I have had an awesome career in Washington, at least in part thanks to her. –

I replied:

– WOW!!! –

The person who sent this email and who was inspired by Mom is Lawranne Stewart.

Lawranne Stewart is the retired Chief Counsel for the House Financial Services Committee.  She is currently on the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) serving as Interim Senior Counsel for Chairman Timothy Massad.  She previously served as Chief Counsel to the Financial Services Committee of the U.S. House of Representatives, spending a total of 13 years on committee staff, where she had major roles in federal housing policy, securities law, derivatives, TARP and the Dodd-Frank Act.  Prior to that, Ms. Stewart worked at the Department of Treasury as Senior Advisor to the Under Secretary for Domestic Finance and as Associate Director of government securities regulation in the Bureau of Public Debt. She began her service in the Legal Division of the Federal Reserve Board after graduating from NYU Law School.

Wow!!!  She has my Mom’s autograph…and KEPT it!!!!
